Northern Pine Snakes

Natural Habitat

Size 5-7'

Inhabits prairie and grassland habitats as well as pine forests of South-eastern U.S.A. When captive, adults require a 40 gallon enclosure, 4ft vivarium.

 

Behaviour

Most will become tame with regular handling.

Captive environment

Use full spectrum lighting 12-14 hours per day. Provide a basking area with access to a cooler zone. Provide rocky basking areas, likes crevices and caves.

Temperature

Day temperature should be gradient from 78 to 90 F. Maintain night temperature range between 70-75 F. Use reptile heat source for 24-hour heat. Must be connected to a thermostat.

Humidity

This species requires only low levels of humidity.

Water Requirements

Use only a small water bowl for drinking.

Nutritional requirements

This species is a carnivore (meat eater). Eats small mammals and birds.

These make great captives as stated by another Mark from Kent I.H.S. "They are bomb proof":, meaning very hardy and on the whole friendly unlike black pines as they can be unpredictable.
